It’s going to be 10 days of total rest in the city in a cosy “nest” for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal with limited access to his cellphone and a strict bar on visitors.
Starting Thursday, Mr. Kejriwal and his parents will be in at the Jindal Nature Cure Institute on Tumkuru Road in what the centre calls a “nest” comprising two bedrooms, a hall and a treatment room. He will undergo a comprehensive naturopathy treatment regimen under the care of a team of four doctors.
Mr. Kejriwal, who will arrive in the city post noon on Thursday, will head straight to the institute from the airport.
Babina Nandakumar, Chief Medical Officer at the institute, told The Hindu that he will have a treatment schedule from 5.30 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. during which time he will have to keep his phone aside. “We have strict rules for all patients. They can use phones only during the break,” she said.
Although his treatment course will be decided after his admission and initial check-up, it will include detoxification, yoga, hydrotherapy, manipulative therapy, physiotherapy, acupuncture apart from diet therapy, she said.
This is the second time he is at the institute. In 2012, he was admitted for diabetes and disturbed sleep. He, along with anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare who had complaints of high blood pressure, spent 10 days there.
Dr. Nandakumar, who recalled that his blood sugar level was 280 in 2012 at the time of admission, said he had walked out with a normal level.
“He was not insulin dependent then. However, this time we have learnt that he is insulin dependent and an appropriate regimen will be worked out,” she said.
Clarifying that he will have to continue his regular medications along with the naturopathy course, she said: “We will monitor his blood sugar level on a daily basis and depending on the clinical progress, we will taper down the allopathic medications.”
