The Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR), proposed over a 40-sq km space in north Bangalore, is expected to attract investments of over $ 20 billion and create about 4 million jobs, directly and indirectly, said Minister for IT, BT and Science and Technology S.R. Patil. The ITIR, which is slated to come up near the international airport in two phases hopes to “boost the IT and electronics sector”, the Minister said on Friday at the inauguration of the Bangalore-office of ShoreTel Communications, a U.S.-based telecommunication R&D company. The ITIR will house IT, ITeS and hardware parks, along with residential townships and other infrastructure. Multinational companies (are increasingly choosing to operate out of Bangalore, drawn by its talent pool, said Mr. Patil. “No other city in the country can boast of the availability of such a large talent pool.”
