The Income Tax Department officials searched the commercial and residential properties of the promoters of real estate firm Embassy Group here on Wednesday for alleged tax evasion.

Sources said the raid commenced early in the morning based on a complaint.

Established in 1993, the firm has developed nearly 35 million square feet of commercial, residential and retail space around the country, and even in Malaysia and Serbia.

The company has claimed that the “searches” were routine.
