The officials of the Narcotics wing of the Central Crime Branch arrested an Iranian national on the charge of supplying drugs and psychotropic substances in the city, and seized drugs worth Rs. 5 lakh from him.
Officials raided the home of Bhoopasandra resident Saeidi Mozhdeh Ehsan (31) and seized 65 gm magic mushroom, 110 gm opium, 90 gm charas, 7 gm cocaine, 3 kg marijuana and 10 Ecstasy tablets.
Visa expires
Police said Ehsan came to India in 2005 on a student visa and studied in good colleges. However, he continued to stay in Bangalore though his visa expired in June 2012. He stayed on the ground floor of the Bhoopasandra house, which was partitioned and rented out to students from various parts of the country.
Assistant Commissioner of Police S.V. Gulled said he is part of a racket, sourcing drugs from Goa to supply his clients. “We are on the lookout for the other links,” the police said.
Some tension
Meanwhile, tension gripped the neighbourhood for a while when the police team rounded up all the students, including Ehsan, and whisked them away without telling them why. Their friends living in adjacent buildings rushed to their help only to find themselves in police custody.
Several northeast Indian students, who are just recovering from their panicky exodus in August, started packing their bags. But some of them contacted the nodal officer appointed to help them. Only after his intervention were five northeast Indian students who were not connected with the case but detained by the Crime Branch, released.
