Industrialist Alam Pasha was followed by two unidentified motorcyclists who later smashed his car’s windscreen outside his house in Indiranagar on Friday evening.
Mr. Pasha, who is also an RTI activist, had exposed a massive land scam in the Global Investors’ Meet and filed two private complaints before the Lokayukta Court against Industries Minister Murugesh M. Nirani, the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and the former Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, as well as several senior IAS officials.
Bigwigs charge-sheeted
One of the complaints pertaining to illegal denotification of land resulted in the filing of a charge sheet against Mr. Nirani, Mr. Yeddyurappa and Mr. Naidu as well as other IAS officials. The Lokayukta police have registered an FIR against Mr. Nirani in the second case where Mr. Pasha had accused him of forgery and fraud.
Speaking to The Hindu after Friday evening’s attack, a rattled Mr. Pasha said: “I was driving to my house from Old Madras Road around 7 p.m. I noticed three men on two motorcycles following me. I sped home and ran indoors. The motorcyclists tried to chase me as I ran. They then smashed the windscreen of my car that was parked outside and left after loudly revving their bikes for a few minutes.”
Powerful enemies
Blaming the State government for the attack, he said that he had sought special police protection over a year ago as he had made several powerful enemies. “My daughters were followed and threatened in March 2012. Even then the State government did not provide me or my family with protection.”
The jurisdictional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) had recommended to the State government he should be provided security. “But the government did not heed the recommendation of its own officer,” he said.
Asked who might be behind the attack, he shot back: “Isn’t that obvious?”
DCP (East) T.G. Krishna Bhatta said, “I have just been informed by the [police] inspector. I will investigate the matter.”
However, jurisdictional police inspector D. Kumar told The Hindu : “He [Mr. Pasha] likes publicity. It seems like some accident.” A case has been registered.
