After reports of irregularities in the operation of Indira canteens in some wards, Mayor Padmavathi visited some units across the city on Tuesday and Wednesday.

After receiving reports that many canteens had run out of food, she instructed kitchens to send sufficient quantity of food.

"Kitchens had been sending less quantity of food on the first two days as they were unsure of the response from the public. I have now asked them to increase quantities so that at least 350 persons can be served during each meal," said Ms. Padmavathi.

In the last two days, she inspected canteens in Attiguppe, Nagarabhavi, R.R. Nagar, Hebbal, Puttenahalli, Gottigere and Guruppanapalya.

Earlier on Monday, she had intervened to get the canteen at Subramanyanagar (Ward 66) opened. The staff had not opened the unit claiming a shortage of water.
