NLSIU-Bengaluru emerges as the top law college in the country

 This year, IISc has been ranked No. 1 with a score of 82.16, whereas in 2017 the institute was given a score of 83.28 and the same was 91.81 in 2016.

City-based institutions emerged on top of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), 2018 rankings announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) on Tuesday.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bengaluru has been ranked as the best institute in the country for the third time in a row while the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru has emerged as the top law college in the country. For the first time this year, the MHRD has evaluated and given separate rankings for law colleges, and assigned ranks to 10 law colleges.

The rankings were first instituted in September 2015 and the first list of ranks was announced in 2016. Institutions are analysed and ranked based on five parameters, including Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity and Perception.

Apart from an overall grading, which ranks the country’s top 100 institutions in general, educational institutions are also assigned ranks under various categories depending on the academic discipline. These include engineering, medical, law, pharmacy, universities, colleges, management and architecture.

In the overall ranking, this is the third time that IISc. has topped the list. However, the scores secured have decreased compared to the previous two years. This year, IISc has been ranked No. 1 with a score of 82.16, whereas in 2017 the institute was given a score of 83.28 and the same was 91.81 in 2016.

7 engineering colleges in top 100

As many as seven engineering colleges in Bengaluru figure in the top 100 engineering colleges in the country. They are R.V. College of Engineering, M.S. Ramaiah Institute of Technology, B.M.S. College of Engineering, P.E.S. University, New Horizon College, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology and IIIT-Bengaluru.

NIT Surathkal, Manipal Institute of Technology and Siddaganga Institute of Technology are the other institutions from the State to make the list of the top 100.

That apart, M.S. Ramaiah Medical College has been ranked 12, among all the medical colleges in the country.

St. Joseph’s College of Commerce and St. Joseph’s Arts and Science College too have made it to the list of top 100 colleges in the country.
