How does a student get into at Ivy League university with an average acceptance rate of 12%? How do you build a resume that demands attention? How can you be a cut above the rest?

Aspirants can get answers to all to these questions from those who were selected by some of the top universities in the world.

Eight students, who recently received offers of admission from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard, Princeton, Stanford and Oxford universities to name a few, have come forward to conduct a session called UpTop on Saturday for those seeking admission in these universities.

Shriank (17), a class 12 student of NPS Indiranagar who has got into Harvard University, stumbled on the idea after several friends sought his advice. He then reached out to other students who had also made the cut.

In a systematic manner and by talking to their peers, they drew up a list of questions that most students would like answers to. They created a customised event to address most of the queries.

The successful students will speak on four topics — building resumes, managing time in planning, choosing colleges to apply to, and writing essays.

Kaveri Nadhamuni (17), who will pursue computer science at MIT, started looking up good institutes since she was in class nine.

She said the process can be ‘overwhelming’. Most institutions abroad have a ‘holistic’ application process and a good extra-curricular track record is necessary. “We have successfully navigated the admission process and we all had to do this first-hand. So we can certainly offer what other aspirants want,” she said.

The others who have volunteered their time are Neha Srivathsa (Stanford), Antara Jha (UC Berkeley), Priya Radhakrishnan (Oxford), Neha Anil Kumar (Princeton), Pallavi Balivada (Boston University), and Shashwati Da Cunha (Georgia Tech).

More than 150 people have signed up for the event, which is free of cost, at National Public School, Indiranagar. It will begin at 12.30 p.m. Students and parents have to register before attending the event by logging on to http://uptop.rocks/
