Houses on revenue land to be regularised by Dec.-end

July 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - BENGALURU:

The State government will regularise unauthorised houses constructed on government (revenue) land in urban and rural areas by December-end, Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa told the Legislative Assembly on Monday. He also hinted at further cut in penalty for regularisation of houses.

Under the Akrama-Sakrama scheme, the government has fixed penalty to be paid by residents who have constructed houses on revenue land on the peripheral limits of urban areas and rural areas.

Penalty

Currently, the fine is Rs. 10,000 for regularisation of houses constructed on 20x30 sq. ft sites in urban areas. In rural areas, the penalty has been fixed at Rs. 2,000, Rs. 4,000, and Rs. 6,000 for houses constructed on 30x40 sq. ft, 40x60 sq. ft, and 50x80 sq. ft, respectively.

In reply to Sunil Kumar V. of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Mr. Thimmappa said village accountants and revenue inspectors would be directed to regularise houses. There was no necessity of conducting a survey. Based on maps, the village accountants and panchayat development officers would be asked to regularise illegal constructions on government land by December-end, he said.

At present, in urban areas, 50 per cent discount in penalty has been offered to house owners belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and ex-servicemen.

City legislators urged the government to increase the dimension of regularisation within the BBMP limits.
