Residents of Bagegowda Layout at Hosakerehalli were in for a surprise on Tuesday when a few houses in the locality were demolished, allegedly by authorities of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Ltd. (NICE)

According to reports, four houses were razed in the morning. When the residents resisted the demolition, the police who were at the spot reportedly took 14 people into custody. The demolition resumed later in the evening.

Meanwhile, T. Shyam Bhat, Chief Executive Officer of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board, told The Hindu that the land had been handed over to NICE in 2005 and a sale deed had been executed. Janata Dal (S) leader H.D. Revanna visited the spot and assured the residents that the matter would be raised with the officials.
