A 23-year-old employee of a hotel in HSR Layout was caught while allegedly spying on women in the ladies’ washroom, on Sunday night.

The accused, Pradeep, was handed over to the police who charged him under Sections 353C (voyeurism) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal code.

According to the police, the man hails from Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. He had joined High Street Hotel as a steward four months ago. On Sunday night, a family was dining in the hotel’s restaurant. Around 8.45 p.m., a 22-year-old excused herself from the table to use the washroom.

She noticed a man peeping into the room through a ventilator and immediately alerted her family.

In his statement to the police, Pradeep denied the allegations, and claimed he was climbing the stairs, which happens to be close to the washroom.

“However, based on the complaint, he has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody,” a police officer said.
