High drama prevailed at the office of the Commissioner of Police where a man in a desperate attempt to meet the city police chief poured kerosene on himself on Thursday afternoon. The security staff present at the premises overpowered him and snatched the matchbox before he could immolate himself and was taken for questioning.

The man identified himself as Srinath from Madhugiri and said that he had come to meet the police commissioner seeking his intervention. He told the police that he was sacked from his job in a factory in Peenya four years ago and despite filing complaint with the Labour department and other officials no action had been taken.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer in charge of the security said that Srinath had brought the kerosene in a bottle concealed in a packet. The security staff will be questioned to ascertain whether there were any security lapses on their part.
