High Court moved for cancelling bail granted to Gowramma

September 12, 2013 11:48 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 05:00 am IST - Bangalore:

The prosecution filed a petition before the Karnataka High Court seeking a direction to cancel the bail granted to Gowramma, a councillor of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, in connection with the murder of RTI activist Lingaraju.

In the petition, the prosecution contended that a fast track court, where the case is pending, had granted bail five months ago though there was a prima facie case against the councillor.

She was arrested in December 2012 after the High Court, while initiating a suo motu public interest litigation petition based on the newspaper reports on the RTI activist’s murder, had questioned inaction on the part of the police in arresting the accused.

Former councillor Govindaraju, Gowramma’s husband, is also an accused in the case. It has been alleged that Govindaraju engaged hired killers after the Lokayukta police raided their premises based on a complaint filed by Lingaraju.

Further hearing on the petition has been adjourned.
