The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday ordered issue of notice to the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) on petitions filed by 65 students from Telangana.

The students had questioned the rejection of their applications to appear for the undergraduate professional course entrance test scheduled to be held on May 10.

COMEDK had rejected their applications because the students had sent them through a private courier instead of speed post as per the rule.

A vacation division bench comprising Justice Anand Byrareddy and Justice G. Narendar passed the order on the petitions filed by Mohammed A. Rab and others, all students of Sri Chaitanya Junior Kalasala, a residential school in Ranga Reddy district.

The petitioners claimed that being students of a residential school they were not allowed to go out and hence had to take the help of the school authorities to send the applications. The school authorities had sent the applications through a private courier, the students said.

The court will be hearing their pleas again on May 7.
