The High Court of Karnataka on Friday granted bail to a film director and four of his associates who were arrested on the allegation of kidnapping the owner of a city-based advertisement agency to recover a part of the money paid for the film’s promotion.

Justice Rathnakala passed the order while allowing the petitions filed by Madan, film director, and four other accused persons — Praveen Kumar, Chalapathy, Murthy, and Mohan. The court directed them to cooperate for the investigation, not to tamper with the evidences or influence witnesses.

It was alleged that Madan had paid ₹16.3 lakh to Paramesh, owner of an advertisement agency, for the promotion of his film Eradu Kanasu. However, Madan demanded return of ₹8 lakh as he was not happy with the film’s promotion. As Mr. Paramesh did not respond properly to his demand, Madan allegedly kidnapped Mr. Paramesh with help of other accused and later demanded ransom from Mr.Paramesh’s family members.
