Hebbal junction to be finally decongested

May 03, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

The busy Hebbal junction that sees a large pile-up during peak hours is set to be decongested with additional lanes above and an underpass below the Hebbal flyover, making it signal free.

The project for which Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George laid foundation stone for on Monday, will take two years to complete. The deadline is 2018, though funds were allocated (Rs. 80 crore) in the State budget of 2015-16.

While National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) added a lane to the Hebbal Flyover from the city towards Kempegowda International Airport a few years ago, BDA will now add two lanes.

The underpass below the flyover has been a longstanding demand. The 320-metre long underpass will connect ORR from Nagwara to Tumakuru Road, and will have a carriageway of nine metres, sources said. This coupled with work on the railway over-bridge at Goraguntepalya junction, will eliminate the two signals on the ORR.
