The Karnataka High Court on Thursday stayed the State government’s order cancelling 10 acres allotted to a private trust to run a goshala (cow shelter), as it was allegedly done ‘solely’ on the basis of a letter written by former prime minister H.D. Deve Gowda.

Vacation bench judge Justice B. Veerappa passed the interim order on a petition filed by Okkaligara Muddanna Goshale Trust, Bengaluru.

It has been stated in the petition that the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Urban district granted the land, situated in survey number 150, Kaggalipura, Uttarahalli hobli, Bengaluru South taluk, to the trust on February 18, 2017 for a period of six moths to run a goshala.

However, all of a sudden and without any notice to the trust, the Deputy Commissioner cancelled the allotment on March 23, 2017.

The petitioner contended that cancellation was solely on the basis of a letter, dated March 19, 2017, written by Mr. Gowda claiming that the land is being used by the local villagers. The petitioner claimed that around 500 cows are housed in the shelter.
