HC halts declaration of cooperative federation election results

August 01, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 29, 2016 12:26 pm IST - Bengaluru:

The Karnataka High Court on Friday directed the Karnataka State Cooperative Election Commission not to declare results of the election to be held on August 1 to the Board of Directors for the Karnataka State Cooperative Federation Ltd.

A Division Bench passed the interim order in connection with an appeal questioning the July 28 interim order of a single judge, which had permitted MLA G.T. Deve Gowda to contest the elections.

Two of the members of the federation had filed the appeal against the single judge’s order.

Though the Division Bench did not interfere in the single judge’s decision of directing the commission to accept Mr. Gowda’s nomination papers and directing the Registrar of Cooperative Societies to include his name in the eligibility list, it restrained the declaration of results.

Mr. Gowda’s nomination papers were rejected on July 25. Mr. Gowda had moved the single judge against this decision.
