He allegedly transported them for a fee across the India-Bangla border

Habib Miyan, one of the accused in the 2005 Indian Institute of Science (IISc.) terror attack, allegedly helped many terror suspects cross the India-Bangladesh border into the country.

Miyan was arrested in a joint operation by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad and the Tripura police for allegedly providing logistical support for the IISc. attack, and later brought to the city by Central Crime Branch sleuths.

He has allegedly told the police that he worked as an autorickshaw driver in Agartala and would often help people cross the border into India for a price of ₹1,000. “He confessed that he had been doing this business for a long time and had helped as many as 45 people in the last few years. He told us that in 2003, a person who worked as his assistant lured him with cash to get groups of people into India,” a source said.

The police believe that Miyan — popularly called the transport man — helped terror suspects into the country.

“We have booked Habib Miyan under conspiracy, which includes providing logistical help for the accused,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) S. Ravi.
