The State Government has now formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Additional Director General of Police Kamal Pant to probe the allegations of corruption in the Lokayukta office.
The Government order has not set any deadline for the SIT probe to submit the report.
This comes after the letter written by Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao to the State Government on Sunday requesting the Government to appoint “any independent agency” to probe into the allegations of corruption in Lokayukta office.
While, sections of civil society including former Lokayukta Santosh Hegde and Upalokayukta Subhash B. Adi, have been demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, the Government has formed the SIT to probe into the allegations.
Meanwhile, Upalokayukta Subhash B. Adi on Tuesday again issued fresh orders to Sonia Narang, Superintendent of Police, Lokayukta, Bengaluru, to continue with the investigation into the case. Lokayukta Y. Bhaskar Rao, on Monday evening directed Sonia Narang to stall probe into the case, citing that he superseded the Upalokayukta’s orders.
Mr. Adi said his orders were judicial while Lokayukta Bhaskar Rao’s orders were only administrative in nature and hence cannot be superseded. Sonia Narang has restarted probe into the case.
