GIS mapping of water connections begins in Malleswaram

RR numbers to be linked to property identity numbers

March 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:20 am IST - Bengaluru:

A large chunk of the 28,000 water connections in Malleswaram Assembly constituency have been mapped by Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). This is part of the pilot project to map all water connections through GIS (Geographical Information System) that was launched here on Saturday.

The project to map all water connections was announced in the 2015-16 budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday.

After launching the pilot project, BWSSB chairperson Anjum Parvez said that after mapping the connections, RR numbers are linked with Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) Property Identity (PID) numbers. “Apart from improving coordination with BBMP, this project will help BWSSB to bring in transparency and provide better services to citizens,” he added.

Of the 28,000 water connections in the constituency, more than 20,000 have already been mapped. Apart from mapping the remaining connections, the physical verification will also begin soon, he added. While mapping, details such as RR numbers, type of connections, whether a particular property has rainwater harvesting system in place or a borewell will also be collected and the data will be entered into the computer.

“This project will help BWSSB create a master data, which will be a base for future projects. We have already floated tender to implement the project across the city,” he added.

Malleswaram MLA C.N. Ashwath Narayan was present.
