In an apparent suicide pact, a 10-year-old girl died after her family of four consumed poison at their residence in R.T. Nagar here on Sunday.
While the girl has been identified as Sridevi, her father, Kumarappa (45), mother Kusuma (40) and brother Prajwal (16) were rushed to a private hospital where they are battling for life. According to the police, Kumarappa, who runs a milk booth near his house at Chamundi Nagar in R.T. Nagar, decided to end his life due to mounting debts on account of loans he took to overcome loss in business. The incident came to light when the milk delivery van arrived in the early hours. The driver and the helper, who noticed that Kumarappa had not opened the shop, went to his house, near the shop, to wake him up and found the members of the family lying unconscious.
Immediately, the driver alerted the neighbours and with their help, rushed the four members of the family to the hospital where the doctors declared Sridevi as brought dead.
The R.T. Nagar police conducted a spot inspection and found a note written by Kumarappa, mentioning the financial losses he had suffered as the reason for his act.
