A two-year-old girl was crushed to death when a tempo traveller ran over her while reversing in Venkatappa Layout in Vidyaranyapura on Tuesday morning.

The incident took place around 10.30 am when the girl, Siddamma, was playing in front of her house. She was the only daughter of Balappa and Naagavya, both labourers and native of Gulbarga, and living in a temporary shed with her parents.

The driver of the tempo traveller (KA50 1588) abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Police have seized the vehicle and efforts are on to ascertain the identity of the driver. The body of the child was shifted to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital for post-mortem. Hebbal Traffic police have registered a case and are investigating.
