A priest paid with his life when he tried to disembark a moving train at the City Railway Station on Saturday morning.
Sreekantha, a resident of Raghavendra Colony, was returning to the city from Mysore on the passenger and when it slowed down, tried to get off as it entered Platform 10 in the station. However, one of his legs got jammed between the moving train and the platform.
The police, quoting eyewitnesses, said the train continued for another 50 metres before it came to a halt. Not only was Sreekantha’s leg sheared off, his body was also crushed. He died before he could be taken to hospital. The railway police identified him by the Electors Photo Identity Card in his bag.
His family told the police Sreekantha had gone to Mysore for a religious occasion and was returning to the city on the Mysore-Bangalore passenger as he wanted to vote in the Assembly elections on Sunday.
Two other deaths
In two other unrelated railway deaths, the bodies of a young woman and a middle-aged man were found on the tracks at the City Railway Station and Telecom Layout on Friday.
The woman, who appeared to be around 25, is believed to have jumped off the platform into the path of the incoming Karnataka Express at the City station.
The body of the man, aged around 50, was found on the tracks near Telecom Layout.
