Keeping tab on your favourite football teams just got easier. Now, you can monitor every goal, tackle and penalty during the FIFA World Cup 2014 with a simple click on your mobile phones or tablets, thanks to the numerous applications that have sprung up during the football season.

In keeping with the football fever, software developers have introduced new apps that can keep you updated as and when the matches take place.

Even mobile users with no internet access can avail these updates via SMSes. ‘txtWeb,’ the largest app stores for text-based apps, launched World Cup Apps comprising of 11 applications through which football fanatics can access live scores, match schedules, tweets and much more.

All you have to do is send an SMS to 51115, and type out the keywords @livegoal for information on live goals schedule, points table and more, @footy, for a quiz about football facts, @ftweet, for live tweets from official football twitter accounts and players, @wcpoll, to participate in the world cup poll, vote for your favourite team, favourite player, and @wchistory to browse through facts of previous World Cups.

The apps are live on Airtel, Vodafone, Aircel, Idea and Tata Docomo at a rate of Re.1 per SMS.

There are apps that will enrich your match experience online by allowing you to share the excitement of the FIFA world cup with other football fans across the world. One such app developed by the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) called TCS SocialSoccerallows you to share thoughts on your favourite teams and players with other fans. It also helps identify the highlights of matches.

There are apps that help track football related topics across many forums to ensure you don’t miss out on any interesting football titbits. ‘Kicks by Pugmarks,’ is one such content app for FIFA that was recently launched.

In this, a small football icon appears on football related topics across online forums like Facebook, Twitter, ESPN FC, Guardian, Chrome and others.

You can kick around the football icon on your screen and one tap on this tiny football opens up various articles about teams, matches and of course your football idols.
