Bengaluru will be developed as a “safe city” for children, women, and elderly people by adopting the German technology in traffic management and policing, said Home Minister G. Parameshwara, who returned to the State after a two-week trip to the European country.
The city will be developed on the lines of Munich, the capital of Bavaria, which is considered one of the safest cities, he said.
Mr. Parameshwara, who led an official delegation to Bavaria, told presspersons on Friday that the technology used by Bavarian police would be deployed in the management of traffic and policing, to make police citizen-friendly.
Mutual training programmes would be used for developing skills among the State police. Karnataka and Bavaria have signed a joint declaration of intent to intensify police cooperation between the two States.
The declaration was signed between the Bavarian Ministry of Interior for Building and Transport, and the Home Minister. The declaration of willingness is in continuation to the existing MoU between the two governments signed on April 2, 2007.
The security at the State’s coast would be stepped up by providing identification card or number to vessels/boats and for this Rs. 100 crore has been sought from the Centre.
Vessels and boats would be linked to the Disaster Alarming System through satellites to check illegal immigration of people and smuggling of goods, he said.
Coastal Academy
The Home Minister said a Coastal Police Academy, first of its kind in the country, would be established on 25 acres in Udupi.
