The Vijayanagar police have arrested a gang of three chain snatchers and recovered gold valuables worth ₹6 lakh from them.

The accused - Syed Musaddiqh (25), Sharukh Khan (25) and Mohammed Saleem - had attempted to rob a woman near Vijayanagar Club on August 9 and were caught by alert public when the victim raised alarm. Passers-by caught the trio. However, before they could be handed over to the police, the trio managed to escape.

The Vijayanagar police, based on a complaint by passers-by, verified the CCTV footage and tracked down the trio. They said the accused were habitual offenders, who had been arrested earlier on similar charges and even imprisoned. Since the time they got out on bail, the accused had robbed as many as seven persons in and around the city, the police said and added that the accused would sell the gold and spend the money lavishly on their vices.
