BENGALURU: Worked as a cop and now she is at set to serve as a corporator. This 35-year-old woman constable has thumped her opponents to triumph the BBMP elections in her maiden attempt.

News is just out that J.M. Savitha, a BJP candidate from the Srinagar ward in South Bengaluru, has come out victorious by defeating JD(S) candidate Nagaratana Thimme Gowda with a lead of 495 votes. Interestingly her father Mayanna contested the BBMP elections last time from Srinagar as a BJP candidate but lost by 88 votes. “My father has been serving the party for the last 20 years and I have always been part of his election work. That exposed me to the ground realities in our ward and provided me some experience and hence I have got ticket now,” said Savitha to The Hindu earlier during her campaigning days.

Joined the Karnataka police force 12 years ago, Savitha served as a constable in the Public Relations section at the office of the Director General of Police on Nrupatunga Road. She resigned her job and entered the election fray and has tasted success.
