A four- year-old girl accidentally fell and drowned in a sump in an under-construction building at Muneshwara Layout in HSR Layout on Saturday.
The deceased Amrita A. lived with her parents, who were working as labourers at the building owned by Pratap Reddy. She was the only daughter of Padma and Anjaneya.
The incident occurred when Amrita slipped into the sump while playing. Her parents, who were busy working, did not notice the incident. It came to light only when the couple finished work and began looking for their daughter. Soon, neighbours and other workers too began looking for her. After an hour of search, they noticed the body in the sump. Though Amrita was rushed to a nearby hospital, the doctors declared her as brought dead.
The H.S.R. Layout police rushed to the spot and conducted probe found that the workers left the sump open to fill water to be used for construction purpose. Since it was raining for the past few days, the area around the sump was slippery and Amrita slipped into the sump while playing.
The police have taken up a case of death due to negligence aganist Pratap Reddy under section 304A of IPC .
The police shifted the body to St John Medical College Hospital, where the postmortem was conducted on Sunday morning. The body has been handed over the parents.
