Four arrested for assaulting constable

Viveknagar police have arrested a group of four persons, who slapped a beat constable for questioning them for consuming alcohol by the side of road on Saturday.

The accused have been named as Shiva, Kumar, Jagan and Muni. Beat constable Santosh Kumar, who was passing by, found them in an inebriated condition and creating a ruckus on the road. The group hurled abuses at him, slapped him and tore his uniform.

Mr. Santosh Kumar alerted the control room, following which the Hoysala patrolling police rushed to the spot and took the accused to police station. Soon, several residents gathered in front of the police station, questioning the detention.

Senior police officers intervened and explained to the agitated group that the four assaulted a constable in an inebriated state.

The accused have been booked for assaulting a government servant while on duty and various other sections and remanded to judicial custody.
