Khwaish, on Kaggadasapura Main Road, is the place to visit when you are craving kebabs and tandoori food this winter. The restaurant isn't hard to miss with handwritten posters listing various offers inviting you to lunch, stuck outside.
We started our meal with the sunshine drink. True to its name, it is a brightly coloured drink with a mix of citrus fruit juices that refreshes and uplifts.
Among the starters, we picked the delectable tangri kebab, with mint chutney to complement it. Moving on to the main course, we ordered a murg dum hundi with tandoori roti and butter naan. The chicken here is cooked in a pot, in the Dum style, and then mixed with green chutney. The curry had generously sized slices of tomato that brought in some additional flavours. Khiley phool, a curry made of cauliflower and mushroom, is bound to please vegetarians.
Khwaish has a special section in the menu dedicated to paneer, of which, we tried the paneer tikka kebabdar. Mildly spicy and very soft, the side dish does not disappoint. The Lucknowi murg biryani with rose water sprinkled on it smelt divine. The rice in the biryani overwhelmingly tasted of mint and saffron. Among the desserts, moong dal halwa is to December what sherbet is to the heat and sweat of May. The weather outside was perfect to dig into this bowl of hot dessert that completed a well rounded winter lunch. Call 9880448585.
