The Bengaluru District police caught a murder suspect on the run after he allegedly hacked to death a cab driver in Bommasandra industrial area on Saturday.
According to the police, the accused, Manjunath alias Mental Manja, reportedly sexually assaulted the sister-in-of Muniraju (26), a cab driver. The duo had a fight over this issue and Muniraju along with his friends alledgedly beat up Manjunath.
Enraged, Manja intercepted Muniraju later in the night while he was returning home from work and hacked him to death.
A special team of police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Anekal sub divisio) S.K. Umesh was formed to nab Manja.
The police based on an information confronted Manja near Bommasandra. When Manja tried to flee on his motorcycle, the police fired a few rounds to neutralize him.
Manja sustained bullet injury on his right leg and was shifted to Victoria Hospital for treatment. The Hebbagodi police have taken up a case and are investigating.
This is the second incident in this month where the police have had to shoot at an accused to catch him. On June 1, the police caught Rajesh, prime accused in the murder of BJP leader Harish, after shooting him down.
