Five policemen assaulted

Five policemen, including three from the city, were allegedly assaulted in separate incidents since Wednesday evening.

Two persons were arrested for allegedly assaulting a constable attached to Rajajinagar police station early on Thursday. The accused have been identified as Ravikumar (44), a social worker, and Shivananda, who runs a school.

The constable, Aradhya, was on night rounds along with another officer when at around 2 am. they heard loud music from a house. Aradhya knocked on the door and reportedly saw three men, who were allegedly inebriated. When he asked them to lower the volume as the house was located close to a hospital, the men allegedly assaulted him. Based on his complaint, two of them were arrested while the third man, Somshekhar, is absconding.

The duo have been booked under Section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant while discharging duty), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon or means) and other cases under the Indian Penal Code.

In another incident, a sub-inspector and a constable attached to the Electronic City police were allegedly assaulted by real estate businessmen on Hosur Road on Wednesday night. Sub-inspector Rajanna and constable Anand were checking for drunk driving near Chennakeshavanagar on Hosur Road. Chinnappa (37) and his brother Anthony (33) were in one of the cars stopped by them. When the policemen booked Chinnappa for drunk driving, they were allegedly assaulted by the two brothers. The two men, residents of Chennakeshavanagar, were arrested.

Five arrested

Five persons allegedly assaulted two policemen late on Wednesday after being barred from proceeding to Nandi Hills.

The Chikkaballapur police (rural) said that entry to Nandi Hills is banned from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. The five men in a car were stopped by constables Imtiaz and Rajesh. The men allegedly insisted on proceeding and assaulted the constables.

They were arrested and placed in judicial custody until March 4. They have been identified as Manohar, Prasanna, Ashwath, Chandrashekhar and Shivraj, who is a grade 2 contractor with the BBMP.

When stopped at the checkpoint, Chandrashekhar had allegedly claimed to be connected to an MLA while Shivraj pretended to be a police officer, Chikkaballapur police said.
