First spring cleaning fails to take off

BBMP’s promise to streamline the cleaning up of K.R. Market by assigning a special day — the last Tuesday of the month — remained a mere promise. A week after Commissioner Siddaiah went public with this plan, it was business as usual at this large market notorious for its rotting garbage mounds.

A recce of the market revealed that none of the shopkeepers were even aware of such an announcement, let alone ready for such a driveWhen The Hindu contacted the BBMP, a senior official who didn’t want his name published said there was no communication from the Commissioner’s office about the cleaning.
