Mango crop grown on about two acres at Patanelavanki under Gownipalli police limits in Srinivasapur taluk was damaged in a blaze on Sunday night. Short circuit was suspected to be the reason for the fire. However, there were no casualties.

Tender mangoes in the mangrove belonging to farmer Srinivasa Reddy fell to the ground as the dry grass and leaves caught fire. The farmer, who was expecting a good harvest this season, said he has incurred a loss of about Rs. 5 lakh. “The remaining tender mangoes on the trees are not expected to grow as they withered due to the heat”, he said on Monday.

A case has been registered with the Gownipalli police. Sparks from a transformer in the plantation are said to have caused the fire.
