At a time the State is facing a severe drought, Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), an umbrella organisation of Kannada cinema, has decided to contribute Rs. 25 lakh for relief work. It has also appealed to various wings of the film industry affiliated to it to contribute separately to the drought relief fund.
“A meeting of associations of directors, producers, exhibitors, artistes, workers and others was convened on April 28 and they were asked to contribute for the public cause,” said Sa. Ra. Govindu, KFCC president.
Back in 1961 when drought hit the State, matinee idol Rajkumar and others had collected funds by holding a benefit show.
Meanwhile, film personalities are trying to help drought-hit people in their own capacity. The team of blockbuster Chakravyuha , starring Puneeth Rajkumar, is planning to share a portion of Sunday’s collection to drought relief fund.
Kannada film star Yash, with the support of his fans’ associations, is supplying drinking water to 50 villages through his foundation, Yashomarga. Presently his foundation is supplying water to 25 villages in Kalaburagi and Vijayapura districts.
“I am contributing to the mission in a limited manner. I planning to extend this to some more villages,” he said .
