Members of the Thiruvalluvar Narpani Mandiram staged a daylong fast on Saturday in protest against the alleged human rights violation by Sri Lankan troops during the Eelam war.
Mandiram secretary G. Sekhar told The Hindu that the Sri Lankan government was guilty of violating the rights of thousands of Tamilians in that country. “Violating ceasefire, the Sri Lankan troops killed Balachandran, the 12-year-old son of Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabakaran. This is a cold-blooded murder,” he said.
He said Sri Lanka was not bothered about protecting the rights of non-Sinhalese people, especially Tamilians. “There is no security for non-Sinhalese people in that country.”
Mr. Sekhar said Sri Lankan troops were guilty of committing the most heinous crimes against Tamilians in that country during the civil war that lasted for 26 years. He urged the Union government and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to support that country in any way.
