Falling trees injure athlete in Cubbon Park

An athlete sustained severe injuries when two trees fell on her moped near the KGS Club in Cubbon Park on Wednesday evening.

Chandana (25), a Railway employee training at the Sports Authority of India on the Jnana Bharati campus, was riding home after training when the trees crashed on her moped in heavy wind.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic - East) B.S. Lokesh Kumar said Chandana, trapped under the branches, injured her thighs.

The Jayanagar resident was first rushed to St. Martha’s Hospital and later to Mallya Hospital.

Rush hour traffic inside the Cubbon Park was disrupted for more than one hour as Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike staff and traffic police were clearing the debris .

Police said the falling trees damaged some other vehicles too.
