With the post of Vice-Chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) being vacant for over six months, the Governor’s office sent a letter to the State government to “expedite” the appointment process.
In a letter to the Medical Education Department, the Governor’s Secretariat has said that the process needs to be carried out in view of administrative difficulties faced by the university owing to absence of a regular Vice-Chancellor.
The post has been vacant since July this year. While the State government wants the university to be shifted to Ramanagaram, the syndicate, senate and officials of the university have decided to defy the government.
Earlier this week, the government pulled up in-charge Vice-Chancellor M.K. Ramesh for not following government directions and transferring one-third of the amount to the Public Works Department towards construction of the new campus in Ramanagaram.
The government had even constituted a search committee, which had finished one round of meeting. However, sources in the Medical Education Department said they would conduct another round of meeting and send the file to the Governor shortly.
