Excise Department clerk caught stealing from treasury

A Second Division assistant in the Excise Department has been booked for forging the signature of her seniors to withdraw ₹1.1 lakh from the government treasury.

The racket came to light during the audit and was brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner of Excise whose signature was forged to withdraw cash.

The accused, Shobharani, is working with the finance and transport department. She had withdrawn ₹49,144, ₹37,500 and ₹24,600 on different occasions since last September and transferred the money to her personal account in SBI.

After irregularities were detected, an inquiry was conducted. Sobharani was found guilty. Deputy Commissioner R. Veena suspended her before filing a cheating and forgery case in Vidhana Soudha police station.
