Ex gratia hiked for accidental death

For the welfare of construction and quarry workers, the State government has increased the ex gratia being paid in cases of accidental death from Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh.

The government is also contemplating increasing the limit of medical reimbursement, which presently has an upper limit of Rs. 2 lakh, according to Minister of State for Labour P.T. Parameshwara Naik.

The leaders presented 19 demands and the government has expressed positive response to many of them. Increase in financial assistance for the education of children of construction workers was among the prominent ones, which would be fulfilled soon, the Minister said. Mr. Naik, who held a meeting with members of the State Construction Workers’ Welfare Board and labour union leaders, told presspersons that the ex gratia limit has been increased to Rs. 5 lakh and it has already come into effect.
