While commuters are thrilled with the swanky metro stations, some commuters, particularly senior citizens, are disappointed as escalators in several stations are not functioning. This included the ones at Vidhana Soudha station.

Krishnamurthy, a senior citizen who went to Cubbon Park station, pointed out that work on escalators is yet to be completed in some stations.

U.A. Vasanth Rao, spokesperson, BMRCL said that escalators not working may have been a technical issue, which was rectified in a few minutes. Additional escalators would be installed based on footfalls, he added.

Need more seating

While waiting for trains, many commuters complained of a lack of seating facility at the stations. Sivan Chakravarthy, a student, said that while the stations are spacious, there is very little seating. He suggested fixing more chairs.

Extend timing

Many passengers are asking if metro services can be extended beyond 10 p.m. Rangel Fernandes, a software company employee, says, “On weekends, when I visit M.G. Road or Brigade Road, I tend to stay out late. It would help if the timings were extended.”

A BMRCL official said services could be extended beyond 10 p.m. if there is demand.

Finding the right exit

While travelling in the metro seems to be easy, finding out which gate to exit from is posing to be a challenge for some commuters. Many punch out or drop their token only to realise that they are at the wrong exit.

Chandrashekhar H. B., a government employee, said, “I had a tough time figuring out which gate to exit from. We need someone to help us figure the way out. After a week, we will be able to manage on our own.”

Last-mile connectivity

The lack of last-mile connectivity at Mysuru Road station has resulted in hundreds of bikes and cars filling up the parking lot and even the roads outside. On Thursday evening, scores of passengers could be seen waiting in the rain to catch buses. Same was the case at Byappanahalli.
