The State government on Wednesday filed an application before the High Court of Karnataka seeking two months to complete the process of granting approval for new English-medium schools as well as to grant permission for existing Kannada-medium schools to shift to English medium. The court, in its February 27 order, directed the government to grant approval for English-medium schools from classes one to five while setting March 31 as the last date to process applications of the schools.

In its application, the government said it would require eight weeks to inspect the schools for infrastructure as it had received 743 applications for starting new English-medium schools and 774 applications for shifting to English medium.

The court is yet to take up this application for hearing.
