A 40-year-old contract employee was killed when the service lift in which he was transporting goods moved and crushed his head against the ceiling of the first floor at GT World Mall, a food chain situated on Magadi Road, on Friday.

The loader, Srinivas, a resident of KP Agrahara, was shifting goods from the ground floor at around 10 a.m. when the incident occurred.

According to the police, Srinivas reached first floor, came out of the lift and was trying to operate the switch from outside through a grill door. The lift began to move upwards and before Srinivas could take his hand out his head got crushed. The other staff rushed to his help but he could not be saved.

The KP Agrahara police have taken up a case of death due to negligence against the administration and further investigations are on.

Srinivas had joined duty one-and-a-half months ago.
