An elderly couple were stabbed to death at their residence in Ashwathnagar in Marathahalli. The bodies of Govindan, 65, a retired employee of Bharat Electronics Ltd. and his wife Sarojamma, 60, were found in a highly decomposed stage on Tuesday night, and police think they were murdered two days ago. It was only on Tuesday that the stench emanating from their house alerted neighbours. Police found multiple stab wounds and blood smears across the floor, said the police.

“There was forced entry and the cupboards had been ransacked. Prima facie, it seems like murder for gain,” said Abdul Ahad, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield).

Fingerprint experts, dog squad and forensic experts arrived on Tuesday.
