Children seem to have the ability to intensely concentrate on what they are doing, irrespective of their surroundings, especially when it comes to artistic pursuits such as clay modelling or singing.
And those were just some of the talents showcased by the 512 children from over 15 children’s homes across Bangalore, at Nakshatra, an inter-orphanage talent festival at New Horizon Educational Institute here on Sunday.
This talent festival is organised annually in Chennai, Tiruchirappalli and Delhi, besides Bangalore, by a non-profit organisation called Bhumi.
Prahalathan Karunakaran, co-founder of Bhumi, said, “Throughout the year, we help with education; we supplement children with what they are missing in government schools, such as computer education and English. Through this, they get a platform for discovering their talents in art and literature.”
And discover they do, as children seek out teachers and wardens, or practise on their own, as they aspire to perform better each year in events ranging from face painting, fabric art and clay modelling, to elocution, poetry recitation and singing.
