Dumping of garbage in tank irks Minister

Transport and district in-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Saturday took officials of Kolar City Municipal Council (CMC) to task for dumping garbage into the Kodikannur tank and for not checking encroachment.

Mr. Reddy, who was in the city to attend the Karnataka Development Programme meeting, visited the tank following demand from the members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS).

“It is shame on the part of the CMC for damaging the tank,” Mr. Reddy told CMC Commissioner K.N. Lakshminarayan. He directed Deputy Commissioner K.V. Thrilokchandra to take steps to clean the tank and clear all encroachments.

Encroachment of Kodikannur tank, which is close to both zilla panchayat and Deputy Commissioner’s office, is rampant and The Hindu had earlier reported about the same.

Srinivasapur MLA K.R. Rameshkumar, who accompanied Mr. Reddy, also expressed dissatisfaction over poor condition of tanks, including Kolaramma tank in the heart of the city.
