A day after a 55-year-old orthopaedic doctor, driving a swanky car, rammed into several vehicles resulting in the death of one person and injuries to four, the Wilson Garden police said preliminary inquiries revealed that N.S. Shankar had consumed alcohol.

They are awaiting reports of the blood test to ascertain the alcohol level. The accident took place on Sunday afternoon. The mayhem started near Madhavan Park and ended at Byrasandra, a stretch of nearly one kilometre. He hit three cars and two two-wheelers.

The police said they are yet to speak to Dr. Shankar, as he was not in a condition to reply to their questions.

Meanwhile, Mohsina Khan, wife of Rizwan Khan, who was killed in the accident, requires surgery for her fractured finger bones, senior police officers said. The other injured persons are out of danger, they added.

Dr. Shankar has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The Siddapura police have registered a case against Dr. Shankar for destroying the house he crashed into.

He was produced before the 6th Additional Metropolitan Magistrate, who remanded him in judicial custody for 14 days. He was taken to Bowring Hospital for a medical test before being taken to the magistrate.
