A man was killed and another injured when a lorry carrying cement from Peenya to Mysore Road keeled over the flyover connecting Nagarabhavi and Sumanahalli Thursday around 8.45 p.m. Ramu (around 37), the driver, died while Murthy (20), the cleaner, survived the 40-foot fall to the service road below.

Fortunately there was no traffic on the service road and hence no other casualties, Kamakshipalya Traffic Police said.

The driver’s cabin was totally crushed and it took two cranes to extricate the trapped men from the wreckage. It took rescuers over an hour to remove Ramu’s body from the mangled truck, while Murthy, who sustained injuries on his head and right arm, was taken to Fortis Hospital.

Sachin Reddy, an eyewitness, said he was riding his bike when he saw the lorry tip over and fall, with smoke emanating from the vehicle as a result of the impact. Another eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, said he came out on hearing a loud noise and saw that a lorry had landed on the road in front of his house.

The service road has been closed to traffic, as the lorry had not been cleared at the time of this report going to print.

Officials believe the accident was caused when a tyre blew.

Two more die

P.K. Rakesh (19), a second year diploma student in BGS College, sustained fatal injuries when he slammed his bike into a parked lorry on the very same Sumanahalli service road Wednesday night.

He was on his way from his tuition class.

He was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.

In a similar incident, a Ravishankar (45), manager in a movie theatre, was killed on the spot when he lost control of his scooter and collided with a road divider on the same service road Wednesday night, Kamakshipalya police said.
