While welcoming the move to charge for parking and even suggesting that the cost per hour be up to Rs. 50 for cars, urban expert V. Ravichander believes the BBMP should develop a comprehensive parking plan while sanctioning the building itself. “Apart from archaic bylaws not being implemented effectively, there has been no comprehensive thinking that involves parking during the construction of buildings. Parking can be allowed in sub-urban buildings, but for commercial spaces in prime areas, parking space should be minimum, forcing workers to use public transport to commute to work,” he said.
